Norman, nice site! I am an old Ro-Li camper and also worked there on staff when I was a teen. My father and grandfather were members of the Belleville Rotary and Lions and were very active in creating and promoting the camp (1940' 50's). I have lots of photos, movies, and good stories about those days. Also lots of other Belleville memorabilia and have been looking for a place to "bequeath" it all since I am 70 yrs. old. Also trying to remember our old Plymouth 9 phone number since I am still using the phone I used to make my first date in 1953 with Judy Catino. Any phone books from that time still around? Jim D'Angelo at 4drdee@bellsouth.net.
Hi Norman, I was a camper in65, 66, 67- my brother Mitch Wainer was a counselor, as well as my cousin George Wainer and his sister Debbie. Loved the hikes to the reservoir, doctors cabin sleep outs or top of the mountain across the lake. I also remember the trading post after dinner, and the cookouts on Wednesdays when the cook had a day off! I have a few cabin pictures and will post them. Do you remember Pete and Arlene Sencivickie the directors? How about swimming to the lighthouse point in glen wild lake?
Hello! Thank you for your interest. I would love to see your pictures, if you will email them to SecondRiver.blog@gmail.com , I will post them on the Blog. I have an old photo of Pete and Arlene that I will post.
I was a camper in the 50's!! Not sure exactly which years, but the weeks spent at Camp Ro-Li are etched in my memory as some of the happiest and most carefree days of my childhood. I especially remember the campsongs we sang. I wish I had pictures from camp, but for now I am enjoying the ones posted on the site. Thank you so much for the memories!
Somewhere I still have photos from my stay at the camp and also have my t shirt too. I learned how to dive, paddle a canoe, devleop a photo, and much more.
I remember evening activities after dinner- capture the flag, counselor hunts, treasure hunts . Every Wednesday night camp outs- the Doctor's Cabin, across the lake, Indian Village.
Two summers, 1966,1967 I was a counselor at Ro-li. So many memories I wouldn't know where to begin. I would like hear from others about their times at Ro-li.
Hello! I was a camper at Ro-Li in 1961 and 1962 , I think, and then a member of the Ro-Li staff for the summers of 1967,1968, and 1969. It was a wonderful place, I made many good friends and have a canoe full of good memories. In 1969 I taught beginning swimming, which about two years later lead me to chose education as my major. After 39 nine years as a science educator, I can't imagine another profession that I could have loved more
I was a camper in 1961 and 1962, and A staff member in 1967,1968 and 1969. It was a great place I made many friends and had a safe haven from life in Newark, NJ. Ultimately, the time I spent teaching beginners to swim in 1969 lead to my choice of career as a science educator.
